The Code Central Games Returns!

Code Central is thrilled to announce the 3rd installment of our student coding competition: The Code Central Games! This will be a fantastic opportunity for our amazing students to challenge themselves, show off their coding skills and have fun in a friendly competition!

Awards

Registration for the Code Central Games ‘25 is now open! Compete in a friendly coding competition with other students to win a 3D printer and thousands of Code Central Crypto! We will also be awarding a custom trophy to the first, second, and third place winners. May the most epic game win!

Judging Criteria

We will have 5 categories for judges to score, each category will be assigned a score from 1-3. The student with the most points from all 5 categories will be the winner!

Technical Difficulty

Is the code well-organized, efficient, and free of bugs/errors? Does the game have a clear structure, rules, and functionality?

Appearance

Is there creativity in the visuals? Does the game maintain a consistent style throughout?

Replay Value

Is it a game players would want to try again? Are there challenges, variety, or scoring that keeps it interesting?

Theme Adhesion

How well does the game follow and reflect the prompt provided at the start of the event?

Fun Factor

Is the game enjoyable to play? Does it provide an engaging experience for users?

FAQ

The Code Central Games is a coding competition where students compete, and showcase their skills in game development. During this competition, students will work solo to develop their own game in Scratch based on a surprise prompt provided at the start of the event.

All participants will compete solo to develop a game in Scratch on a theme that will be provided on the day of the event. Participants’ finalized games will be scored for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The competition will be followed by a two-hour celebratory Bonus Round for all participants that includes snacks, a bounce house, and staff dunk tank.

Students should come ready with creativity, an open mind, and a positive attitude for both the challenges and collaboration involved! Please have your child wear their Code Central shirt or costume. Snacks and pizza will be provided.

This event is open to all members who are Level 2 or higher in our Level-Up curriculum.

The purpose of The Code Central Games is to provide students with a fun, interactive experience that fosters creativity, coding, and problem-solving through game development. This event promotes a blend of education and entertainment, offering an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and build confidence through healthy competition.

Participants can prepare for The Code Central Games by practicing block-coding skills in Scratch. They should also familiarize themselves with tools in Scratch like extensions and the Costumes and Sounds tab. Participants are strongly encouraged to review important coding concepts including variables, if-statements, repeat blocks, etc. They should come ready with creativity, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude.
