Students level 2 and higher are invited to join, with all participants able to enjoy a video game party bus at the end of the day. May the most epic game win! 🥇

Let The Games Begin!

Code Central is thrilled to introduce our first ever coding competition: The Code Central Games! This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves, show off their coding skills, and have fun while doing it. Learn more below and join us today! Time: 9AM-5PM

What are the Code Central Games?

The Code Central Games is a game-a-thon where students
collaborate, compete, and showcase their skills in Scratch game development. During this game-a-thon, students will work solo or in teams to develop their own game in Scratch using a surprise prompt provided at the start of the event.

What activities are included?

As a team or solo, all participants will develop their game in Scratch using a prompt that will be provided on the day of the event. Participants will present their finalized game to our judges to score, followed by a two-hour gaming party.

What do I need to bring?

Students should come ready with creativity, an open mind, and a positive attitude for both the challenges and collaboration involved! Wear your Code Central t-shirt. Snacks and pizza will be provided.

Who can participate?

This event is open to all members who are Level 2 or higher in our Level-Up curriculum.

Will there be prizes or awards?

Yes! There will be awards given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (per tier) with a crypto prize and trophies.

How do I register?

You can register online through Pike13, or contact us directly to reserve your child’s spot. Be sure to register early, as spaces may be limited!

The first ever Code Central Games will be an event students will not want to miss! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves, show off their coding skills, and have fun while doing it. The day will conclude with presentations of participants’ games to our judges, followed by a two-hour gaming party in a video game party bus!

Why create the Code Central Games?

The purpose of The Code Central Games is to provide students with a fun, interactive experience that fosters creativity, coding, problem-solving, and teamwork through game development. This event promotes a blend of education and entertainment, offering an opportunity for students to showcase their talents, collaborate with peers, and build confidence through healthy competition in a supportive environment.

How should students prepare for the Code Central Games?

Participants can prepare for The Code Central Games by practicing block-coding skills in Scratch. They should also familiarize themselves with tools in Scratch like extensions and the Costumes and Sounds tab. Participants are strongly encouraged to review important coding concepts including variables, if-statements, repeat blocks, etc. They should come ready with creativity, an open mind, and a positive attitude for both the challenges and collaboration involved.

How does the video game party bus work?

The Code Central Games will conclude with an epic celebration of all the participants’ hard work and dedication in a fun and immersive video game party bus. The bus will be equipped with popular, age-appropriate video games and consoles, giving students a chance to relax and have fun with friends after the competition for two hours.

Judging Criteria

Each category will be assigned a score 1-3 with the highest total points determining the winner(s). There will be 3 judges including a Code Central instructor, a non-participating student, and a parent of a non-participating student.

***Note: Most participants may not have a completed game at the end of the event.

How original and innovative is the team’s game or gameplay approach? Are they using unique ideas, characters, or game mechanics that stand out? Is the game enjoyable to play, and does it provide an engaging experience for users?

Are the visuals, animations, and overall game aesthetics polished and appealing to the players? Does the design show attention to detail, creativity in visuals, and a consistent style?

How well does the game adhere to the prompt provided at the start of the event?

How effectively does the team use coding? Is the code well-organized, efficient, and free of bugs or errors? Did the team incorporate more advanced coding techniques, algorithms, or logic into their project? Does the game have a clear structure, rules, and functionality?

How well does the team explain their game? Can they clearly articulate their thought process, goals, creative choices, challenges they faced, and how they overcame them? Are they enthusiastic and confident when presenting?

As a reward for participating in our first ever Code Central Games, all participants will be able to enjoy a video game party bus after the competition. In addition, awards will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place team (per tier) with a crypto prize and trophies. Check out our awards below, may the most epic game win!
