Critical Thinking

Modding in Minecraft with MCreator involves logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students must understand the game’s mechanics and how different elements interact to create balanced and functional mods. They’ll encounter challenges such as debugging errors and optimizing performance, which require them to think critically and troubleshoot effectively.

Game Design Principles

Through modding with MCreator, children gain insights into game design principles as they experiment with different gameplay mechanics, balance, and player experiences. This hands-on experience empowers them to become more discerning players and potentially even game designers in the future, as they hone their ability to analyze, critique, and improve upon existing game designs.

Introduction to Programming Concepts

While MCreator simplifies the process of mod creation by providing a visual interface, it still introduces children to fundamental programming concepts. Through designing mods, they’ll learn about variables, conditions, loops, and event-driven programming, laying a foundation for more advanced coding skills in the future.

Engagement and Creativity

MCreator provides a user-friendly interface that allows children to bring their imaginations to life within the Minecraft universe. By enabling them to design their own mods, children can unleash their creativity, whether it’s creating new items, blocks, creatures, or even entire dimensions.

9:00 – 9:15 AM

Students will be checked in as they arrive and introduced to each other.

9:15 – 10:45 AM

Students will be introduced to MCreator Minecraft Modding, choose their desired project and begin coding!

10:45 – 11:00 AM

This will be a short snack break for the students. Snacks are provided.

11:00 – 12:30 PM

Students will continue building their Minecraft Mods and debugging with instructors.

12:30 – 1:00 PM

Students will take a break from building to have lunch. Please remember to bring a lunch as it is not provided!

1:00 – 2:00 PM

Students will complete their Minecraft Mods, demonstrate its functionality and have free time to experiment with their creation

2:00 – 2:30 PM

Students will take a break from building their mods to participate in a group unplugged activity.

2:30 – 3:00 PM

Students will be picked up and will be able to showcase their epic Minecraft Mods!

Monica

Monica got her degree in Computer Science from UNLV. Math is her favorite subject to study, and she enjoys working alongside kids as she’s able to show them new and exciting projects. In her free time, Monica enjoys listening to music.

Vicki

Vicki is currently studying Computer Science at UNLV and has previously earned a degree in Psychology from NSC. She is an avid gamer, spending most of her free time playing games online with her friends or playing volleyball when she’s offline! Vicki has worked with kids for over 8 years and loves to see students learn as they grow.
